My Evening Toilette

Most nights somewhere between 9 and 10pm, I announce to my husband that I’m going to do my toilette.  This is my time to pamper myself and take care of my skin.

  • If I’m wearing makeup, I remove it with eye makeup remover and cotton.  It also removes face makeup like foundation and blush.
  • I wet my face with warm water (never hot - that’s too drying) and work up a creamy lather with my favorite cleanser.  I massage gently for maybe 20 seconds, rinse and pat my face dry.  My skin feels clean and soft, not tight or stripped.
  • A spray of toner is next.  Toners are alcohol free and calm the skin preparing it to better absorb oil or night cream.  The one I use starts the hydration process.
  • Now I massage a cream or oil into my still slightly damp face and throat.  The massaging part is good for increasing circulation.  Massage in an upward direction, but again go easy.
  • I finish by lightly tapping eye cream around my eyes and on my lids being careful not to go too close to my eyes.  A little eye cream goes a long way.
  • Before I get into bed, I apply lip balm and hand cream.  My skin is glowing and I smell great.  Just ask my husband!
