INTERNAL SUNSCREEN
A diet rich in antioxidants and omega-3 fatty acids provides skin with an inner protection against sunburn and free-radical damage from sun exposure. I love this idea. Eating healthy has yet another benefit. Here’s a list of the best foods to get that inside-out sun protection: whole fruits and vegetables especially berries, pomegranates, carrots, broccoli, tomatoes, artichokes, beans and spinach. Green tea contains a very potent antioxidant and makes a delicious iced beverage in the summer. And add fish and cod liver oil to this list as well.
Quality Vitamin C supplements are important for beautiful skin and when it comes to the sun, Vitamin C ups melanin production allowing skin to be more resistant to sun damage.
Use common sense when it comes to spending time in the sun. We all need some unprotected sun to get the much needed Vitamin D that we all seem to be lacking. Protective clothing and hats will do the job and when needed for longer exposure, use a chemical-free suncreen made from the minerals zinc oxide and titanium oxide.
Summer solstice is Monday, June 21. Enjoy your summer and the sun.
To your health and beauty!
